Say, “Hello!”, to Sharon Hardel!

By October 12, 2017News

Our new Director of Youth & Family Ministry, Sharon Hardel, will begin her ministry at First Lutheran on Sunday, October 15. She and her husband, Kent, come from Chambersburg, PA, where she served as the Director of Youth and Family Ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church for the past 16 years. Stop by her office and say, “hello”, when you get the opportunity!

In the meantime, we took the opportunity to ask Sharon a few questions about beginning her ministry at First:

Q: What are you most looking forward to joining the First Lutheran ministry team?

A: I am looking forward to working with a team that seems to have a passion for ministry and having fun doing it. I am also looking forward to new challenges and meeting lots of amazing new people.

Q: Why come to Lincoln, Nebraska? Why First Lutheran?

A: I have to give Sunni and the Holy Spirit the credit for why Lincoln and First. Sunni was Kent’s boss at Camp years ago and I met her last summer. She sent me a Facebook message asking me to consider applying for the position. The Holy Spirit took it from there and I couldn’t say, “no.”

Q: What is one thing about First Lutheran that made a lasting impression on you after your visit?

A: My lasting impression after my first visit was how much I immediately felt like I was home. So many welcoming, friendly people and just an overwhelming sense of joy in the Spirit. First Lutheran is a true community of disciples committed to following Christ.

Q: What do you and Kent most need from your sisters and brothers at First Lutheran to help you with your new home and your new call?

A: Kent and I will need prayers and the feeling of family as we adjust to moving here. Me, especially, since I’ve never been more than an hour away from family. We are grateful to all those who have helped us unload, unpack and shared food with us.

Q: Will you cheer for and support the Huskers?

A: As for cheering and supporting the Huskers… I’m all in except for November 18! Kent is a true Husker fan, though, so I usually support them as long as they’re not taking on my Penn State Nittany Lions!

Welcome to Huskerland, Sharon and Kent!
