FaithTrek Prayer Jars Impact Hospice Families

By December 10, 2019Care Ministry, News, Serve

The word of the month for FaithTrek during the month of November was CARE. The kids (ages 3-5th grade) learned what it means to care for another person and all the ways you can show care.

The kids put the word CARE to action through a number of serve projects, including a book drive for the Reading Matters program and preparing sack lunches for the Peoples City Mission.

The 4th and 5th graders care project after learning about hospice CARE from First Lutheran member, Marianne Warnes, was making prayer jars for hospice patients and families at Journey House on Tabitha’s main campus. The kids decorated mason style jars and wrote prayer suggestions on craft sticks that were placed in the jars. Some of the messages on the sticks included:
o List 5 things you are thankful for.
o Give an example of a blessing from God.
o Take a moment of silence to reflect.
o Rejoice! I say it again, Rejoice! (Phil 4:4)
o Name 3 ways you used your gifts today.
o Name 1 something that made you smile.
o Where did you see God at work today?
o Say thank you to someone.

On the day the jars were handed out at the Journey House they immediately made an impact in the lives of others. Here’s a message received from the staff (see photo below of the staff with some of the prayer jars)…

“Please tell the wonderful children thank you! We started giving jars out today. Two families were in tears they were so touched! One woman held her jar as she watched her dad draw his last breath today. 😢 ”
