First Lutheran Church is the first and only AMMPARO (Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities) ELCA church in Nebraska. What does this mean? It means First Lutheran is a welcoming congregation and accompanies migrant children and families through their transition to life in the U.S.
At First, we don’t just say we are “welcoming”. We act on it. On Saturday, January 13, eleven of our members and staff attended an ELCA-sponsored Guardian Angel training in Omaha. These individuals were prepared to “be the church” in the courtroom for migrant minors and their families.
