Read the Bible in 90 Days
Join other First Lutheran members in a commitment to read through the Bible in 90 days beginning January 1. This isn't a Bible study so much as a coordinated, supported reading of the entire Bible in less than 13 weeks - a great way to become more familiar with the whole scripture. It involves reading about 12 pages a day, and attending one 60 minute session a week for conversation, encouragement, and mutual support.
Weekly sessions are Tuesdays at 5:45 pm, Wednesdays at 10:45 am, or Sundays at 5:00 pm. For a schedule of daily readings click here. Download preview notes of each week's readings here. Week 2 - Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy Week 3 - Joshua, Judges and Ruth Week 4 - I & II Samuel and I & II Kings Week 5 - I & II Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemia Week 6 - Esther, Job, Psalms Week 7 - Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon Week 8 - Isaiah and Jeremiah
Check out our Bible in 90 Days Blog! Let us know how your reading is going and join in the conversation about the weekly Bible readings!
A Family Edition is also available for children/Families. Instead of reading 12 pages, an excerpt, based on the program outline, has been chosen that is approximately 10-20 verses and is appropriate for families to read and discuss together. Reading guides are available for download or can be picked up at the Welcome Center. Tips for families reading the Bible together are also available. |

Saturday with the Guys
Men of all ages are invited to gather the second Saturday of the month, 8:00-9:00 AM, at First Lutheran. Enjoy a light breakfast, cup of good coffee and join the discussion centered on a book or video clip. We are currently reviewing and discussing Philip Yancey's book, What's So Amazing About Grace?" Yancey says "We speak of grace often. But do we understand it? More important, do we truly believe in it...and do our lives proclaim it as powerfully as our words?" He goes on to say "There is nothing we can do to make God love us more. There is nothing we can do to make God love us less."
Come join us the second Saturday of each month as we meet to discuss the question of grace and how it affects our lives. Contact Jim Kisling or Mitch Snyder with your questions.

People of Faith
People of Faith is a conversational approach to the Bible and how it applies to our everyday life. Our common goal is to become more fluent in the language of scripture, the language of our faith, so that we might live more fully as called people of God sent in the world to serve. The group will meet Sundays from 9:30-10:30 am on the Lower Level. |
The Library
First Lutheran is committed to stimulating learning and growing in a variety of ways and settings, which includes a library stocked with a wide variety of books and movies for all ages. Through the generous donations of many in the congregation and community, our collection includes several biblical and theological study books, as well as fiction, non-fiction and a well-stocked children's section.

Grief Journey Class
The Grief Journey class is offered each year in the fall and again in the Spring after Easter. These combination instruction/discussion sessions will be co-facilitated by Janice Bennetch and Cynthia Holt who have experienced their own personal grief journeys and have agreed to team up to share their knowledge, to impart a touch of God's love, and to comfort and empower you in your time of loss. The class runs five or six weeks depending on the time of year.
Learn what you weren't taught about grieving and how to heal. Discussions will focus on issues concerning your individual grief journey, with emphasis on coping during the upcoming holiday season.

Book Discussion Gathering
Each month, we gather to discuss a current book, which is chosen by the group based on their given interests. The atmosphere is informal, with a different group member leading the discussion each month. We generally meet on the 1st Monday of the month at 7pm, with the date moving to the 2nd Monday when holidays dictate. All are welcome to join us!
Upcoming Books March 5, 7:00 pm - “O Pioneers” by Willa Cather. The discussion will be led by Pastor Harlan Heier.
“O Pioneers” tells the story of the Bergsons, a family of Swedish immigrants in the farm country near the fictional town of Hanover, Nebraska at the turn of the 20th century. The main character, Alexandra Bergson, inherits the family farmland when her father dies, and she devotes her life to making the farm a viable enterprise at a time when other immigrant families are giving up and leaving the prairie. The novel is also concerned with two romantic relationships, one between Alexandra and family friend Carl Linstrum and another between Alexandra's brother Emil and the married Marie Shabata. |
