Making Connections Across Generations
Time after time, research has shown that young people need to be surrounded by people who love, appreciate, and accept them and that this kind of environment fosters their growth. The Search Institute has documented the impact of providing a child with high levels of consistent and predictable love, physical care and positive attention. Their research highlights the importance of a child having caring relationships with adults outside the family.
But it is not just the young people that need to be surrounded with a positive environment. The same is true for each of us, no matter what our age. We need each other. We need people who care about us, listen to our stories, encourage our growth, turn to us for help, support our adventures, empower, challenge, pray for us and laugh with us.
One of the most important ways to build connections among God's people is across generations. The Body of Christ consists not of one single age group but of all ages. First Lutheran Church strives to create regular opportunities for fellowship and service that provides opportunities for people in like life positions to gather as well as multigenerational programs that encourage all people to take part in. The key is getting involved, making connections and sharing your smiles, expertise, gifts, prayers and blessings. Check out the multigenerational offerings at First Lutheran -- adult learning programs, spiritual formation activities, the Outdoor Discovery Space as well as special happenings for just for the guys and others for the women of the church.
