The Season of Epiphany
"Let your light so shine . . . ." These words we hear at every baptism are a constant theme throughout Epiphany. The season is named for Jesus' own shining epiphany, or revelation, to the world. The magi followed the light of his star to bring gifts to a new king, the infant Jesus. On the first Sunday of the season, we hear the story of the adult Jesus' baptism in the River Jordan. And throughout the season, we learn from each Sunday's scriptures about the many ways in which we grow by letting God's light shine through us.

 First Lutheran is putting together a new pictorial directory. Portraits will be taken by Lifetouch Photography Feb. 28 - March 3 and March 6-10. Members can sign up for a portrait session by clicking on this picture and following the instructions. Session times will be filled on a first come first choice basis. If you are having difficulty signing up online, please call the office at 402.488.0919 or stop by the sign up table before or after worship on Saturdays or between services Sundays.

A Science Affair
Feb. 12
First Lutheran kicks off "Growing in Faith Through the Lens of Science" with a Science Affair on Feb. 12, an opportunity to dive into the dialog between faith and science. Join us between services as Mad Science of Kansas City engages Faith Trek students (adults are welcome, too!) with a fun interactive presentation called Fire and Ice! Then, following late service, we will have lunch and enjoy another presentation by Mad Science entitled Up, Up and Away. The Scientists in Congregations Committee will also have information about our upcoming units: Brain Science, Origins/Big Bang Theory and Archeology of the Bible. Come and explore the wonders of science and consider how faith is infused in every element of our lives. It will be a fun, educational day for young and old! |

Ash Wednesday
Feb. 22
The 40 day preparation for Easter begins Feb. 22, Ash Wednesday. The congregation will gather for Worship with Communion and the Imposition of Ashes at Noon and 7:00 pm. The weekly Lenten worship, fellowship and learning activities begin on Feb. 29. See the Worship schedule in the left column of this page for times of Wednesday activities during Lent. |

The Waffleman
Feb. 21
Join us for the second annual Fat Friday fundraiser for the First Learning Center Scholarship Fund. The Waffleman will be serving delicious Belgian waffles from 4:30 - 7:00 on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Get your tickets now for $5 at the display in the Commons area before and after worship services, or stop by the church office during the week. Tickets will be sold the day of the event for $6. |
