FaithTrek Adventures
FaithTrek is the name of First Lutheran's Sunday School Ministry for children 3-years-old through 5th grade offered Sunday mornings, during the school year, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Workshop Rotation Model
The FaithTrek curriculum utilizes the Workshop Rotation Model. With this model, students explore one Bible story over the course of three to four weeks, rotating each week to a variety of workshops. Workshops are designed to allow students to experience the Bible lesson in creative, hands-on, and interactive ways. Unlike the “traditional” classroom model which requires students to “sit, listen, and learn”, this model enables students to “learn by doing”. Tapping into a variety of learning-styles, FaithTrek enables students to learn while having fun, being creative, getting out of their seats, and discovering new things about themselves and their faith in Jesus. Through active participation and weekly repetition, our mission is to help students truly learn the stories of the Bible.
Students who participate in FaithTrek are grouped according to age/grade and are led by an adult Shepherd who participates in workshop activities, builds relationships with each child, and helps reinforce the lesson being taught. With help from our Shepherds, our goal is to connect students with a significant “impact” adult who nurtures the growth and development of faith in every child.

1st Sunday and “At Home Huddle”
Parents and students come to the Activity Center on the 1st Sunday of each new unit for a large group opening where we introduce the Bible story, announce the workshops, and learn a song related to the Bible story. Students are then dismissed to their workshops while parents are encouraged to stick around for the “At Home Huddle”. The “At Home Huddle” provides parents with a brief overview of the Bible story, an in-depth look at the workshops, a unit schedule, and some ideas and suggestions for reinforcing the Bible story at home.
For each of the remaining weeks, students gather in the Upper Room for our large group opening.
- No FaithTrek December 25 or January 1
- Unit Five begins January 8: The theme is "God Speaks and Asks Us to Trust," The story of the Wilderness Wanderings and Manna from Heaven.
