Serving The Community
The Body of Christ reaches far beyond the walls of our congregation. God calls us to step out in faith and service to those around us. First Lutheran is a community committed to being in ministry with a wide array of local organizations and ministries so that the message and love of the Gospel can be shared.
CROP Walk
Mark the date on your calendar! The 2008 CROP Walk will be held on Sunday, October 12 with registration from 1:30-2:30 pm. The walk will begin and end at American Lutheran Church, 42nd and Vine. Local walk funds support the local chapter of Bread for the World, Emergency Food Pantry System, Food Bank, People's City Mission and the Southern Lancaster County Pantry.
Sign up for the walk will begin on September 21. If you aren't able to walk this year, please consider generously supporting one of your fellow First Lutheran walkers! If you have any questions, email Sandy Latshaw, or call her at 423-7717.
Matt Talbot Kitchen
Volunteers from First Lutheran prepare and serve a meal every third Tuesday of the month. Each month, more than 130 homeless or low-income individuals express gratitude for this ministry. A sign-up sheet for volunteers may be found in the commons area of the church.
FEAST
FEAST stands for Friends Eating and Singing, Studying & Sharing Together. First helps support the prison ministry by providing and serving an occasional meal. This effort allows those incarcerated at the Community Corrections Center, or recently released, to meet with their families for a meal, worship, and Bible discussion. Watch for a sign up sheet in the commons area and get involved.
Going Green
The Social Ministry Committee is leading an effort to strengthen the recycling program at First. Watch for details on how you can help us be green at First.
Meals on Wheels
This long-standing ministry of First Lutheran provides the program with many dedicated drivers. First assisted with the recent fundraising drive for the Meals on Wheels Endowment Fund and has been recognized by Tabitha for its efforts. The program is always in need of more drivers, so please contact the church if you would like to volunteer.
People's City Mission
First Lutheran sends a least one representative to two Mission advisory board meetings during the year. Volunteer projects at the Mission are scheduled from time to time and include sorting items at the Distribution Center and conducting a clothing drive at church. A drive for other needed items may also take place at the church.
