Serving One Another

Caring for each other is another way First Lutheran is reaching out. We know life can often be unpredictable, challenging, and difficult. First has resources to help you cope and ministries designed to help you weather the hard times and to celebrate the good times. This page highlights the various ways that we offer support and care within the congregation.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers are trained and supervised lay caregivers who provide one-to-one Christian care to people in the congregation who are bereaved, hospitalized, terminallly ill, separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated, or facing a crisis or life challenge. Stephen Ministry helps pastors and congregations provide quality caring ministry for as long as people need it. Stephen Ministers complete fifty hours of training and are asked to commit at least two years to the program.

Casserole Caravan

Just home from the hospital? the last thing you want to think about is making supper. Honk, honk - here comes the Casserole Caravan to the rescue. The caravan delivers a meal to those just home from the hospital and families who are dealing with a death or family crisis. Contact Karen Lind-Olson, 486-1885 to become a caravan member.

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers take communion, on a regular basis, from our Sunday worship to members who are homebound. Here is what one of Eucharistic Ministers had to say. "I love being a Eucharistic minister because it connects me to the larger community. My partner and I have so much more in common than I could have dreamed and as a relatively young person, it's great to hear her perspective on life. She was such an active member of the church, and she yearns for a stronger connection with the current congregation. Serving in this way is not just service, it's actually a lot of fellowship and with a little ministry thrown in. Being able to share the Eucharist reminds me again how great that gift really is and I am ecstatic that it was given both for me and her."

Health Care Ministry

Caring for one's own health is a matter of human necessity and good stewardship. Caring for the health of others expresses both love for our neighbors and responsibility for a just society. The Health Care Ministry at First Lutheran is evolving with projects generated out of need and the expertise of First Lutheran ministry partners. Projects include workshops, bringing the blood Mobile to First and provide resources for those in need. We are committed to working for and supporting health care for all people. Transportation Ministry

God's Word is full of instances where God made a way when there didn't seem to be a way. That's the approach of our transportation ministry. Drivers provide transportation for people who might otherwise be unable to attend worship and other special church events. Drivers will be matched with individuals in the same geographic area whenever possible. Training on assisting an individual who use a walker or wheelchair will be provided as needed. If you are willing to be on the schedule of available drivers contact Sunni Richardson.

Drivers are also needed to help with medical appointments, especially during the business week, and to occasionally run errands. If you are willing to be on this "on call" list of drivers, contact Sunni Richardson.
